Tennessee's CoverKids program may be in danger of losing funding unless SCHIP is reauthorized by Congress and sufficient federal funds are added for future growth.

Generally speaking this program will cover children who are below 250% (two and one-half times poverty). See the linked material for details. Its main draw backs are its limits on mental health services for children and no dental and vision care. If your child is uninsured, it is worth checking out. The program is scheduled to start on April 1, 2007 with applications being taken now. For a copy of the application, click here.

The latest: It looks like it has been delayed again. We are now told that people will be able to apply before the end of March. That meets that a child may not be able to receive benefits until the end of April.
