Working for

health care justice

The U.S. Senate Voted "YES for SCHIP Today!

Senators Alexander and Corker voted YES!

Immediate calls need to be made to four Tennessee Congress members who voted "NO."

The problem now is that the President has said that he will veto this legislation that would provide health insurance to children in working families who make too much for their children to be on Medicaid and not enough for them to afford health insurance. The following Tennessee U.S. Congress members have now voted against our children twice. They will have one more chance to change their vote:

Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn - Southern middle and west Tennessee
Congressman David David - Northeast Tennessee
Congressman Zack Wamp - Southeast Tennessee
Congressman John Duncan - East Tennessee

If they do not change their vote, helping to provide enough votes to over-ride a Presidential veto, funding for Tennessee's CoverKids program will be in jeopardy.

I need you to do two things:

  1. Call your U.S. congress member is listed above, please call them today and ask them to change their vote from "NO" to "YES." The toll-free number is: 1-800-828-0498 or 1-866-544-7573
  2. Help us find several families in Tennessee who have uninsured children or children in CoverKids. We need to have families speaking out. Respond to this email immediately and also email smckay@thcc2.org

Strong votes in Congress will send a message to President Bush and his advisors that they must think twice before vetoing legislation that provides health care to 4 million additional children.

Sincerely,

Tony Garr, Tennessee Health Care Campaign
