Cover Tennessee

Cover Tennessee is the umbrella name for the state’s health insurance products. For information or to apply for any of the programs call: 1-866-636-0080 or go to http://covertn.gov/.

Cover Tennessee products:

  • AccessTN: High-risk pool that provides comprehensive health insurance for adults with serious physical and/or mental medical conditions, who have been turned down by insurance companies. Three different plans are available with varying deductibles. Premium assistance was once available for low-income people, but is closed at this time. Less than 5,000* of est. 100,000+ “uninsurable” Tennesseans are on the program, in large part because the cost of premiums make the program out of their reach.

  • CoverKids: Provides comprehensive health coverage for children 18 years and under and maternity coverage for pregnant women with incomes up to 250% of the federal poverty level (FPL). Those above 300% can buy-in to the program. This is Tennessee’s version of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (S-CHIP), which all states have. About 31,000* children are on the program and an estimated 100,000 children who are eligible for either CoverKids or TennCare for Children (Medicaid) remain uninsured.

  • CoverTN: Limited choices and bare-bones coverage for low-wage employees of small businesses with 50 employees or less (half must be low-wage workers), the self-employed, and individuals. The state, individuals, and employers each commit to pay one-third of the monthly premium; however, employers are not required to pay one-third, so employee may have to pay up to two-thirds of the premium. Less than 20,000* of est. 600,000 working uninsured adults are on the program.

  • Cover Rx: Prescription program that offers affordable medication to low-income, uninsured Tennesseans. Most of the drugs are generic. Call or visit Cover Tennessee’s web site for details.
