Today, the Tennessee House of Representatives passed Representative Odom's bill to make affordable health insurance available for people who are low-income and uninsurable. The bill passed with 89 YES's and 1 NO.

The Tennessee Senate passed the same bill earlier in the week. Senator Jackson was the lead sponsor in the Senate. The bill passed in the Senate with 29 YES's and 0 No's.

You can go to www.tenncare.org for more information and read the exact bill that was passed. The Odom/Jackson bill will provide assistance to 20,000 to 25,000 of the 67,000 uninsurable people in need. Although this bill is limited in the number of people reached, it is an important step forward. Legislators can add additional funds next year once the program gets started. The administration has committed to begin working on this immediately and legislators want to see this program started as soon as possible.

Your legislators responded to your calls. They overwhelmingly supported your request that insurance coverage be made available to low-income, uninsurable Tennesseans. It is now time to thank your state legislators. Everyone has one state senator and one state representative. You need to make two calls, or send two faxes or two emails. It is important to now convey your thanks and gratitude.
